Its been a while since Ive done one of my HUGE Mega Giveaways on my blog & I think its time to do another. So I'm looking for Etsy shops who would want to be featured on my blog of 454 followers. All you need to do is give a prize away. It can be a Gift Certificate to be used in your shop, Item which can either be something already made or something new ex: a pair of earrings or some beads etc, the possibilities are endless. Sorry but the prize cannot be a % or $ off something. You have to be willing to ship it directly to the prize winner at no charge & be open to international shipping as well, since a lot of my blog followers are from WW countries.

The way this benefits you is that the mandatory entry is that they have to go through your shop, so your shop MUST be ACTIVE during the time of the giveaway, pick one favorite item from your shop & post the link on my blog. Another entry which counts as 4 entries, is that they have to heart everyone's shop & 6 entries if they buy something from your shop. Bead Challenge Winners - Featuring...

On Aug 22, Jewelry By Solange & BeadieandThings had a Bead Challenge where 10 contestants participated & created a handmade creation using 2 Beads that were sent out by me & other materials they could find. Voting begun & these 10 individuals competed with each other (in a friendly manner, I might add) to become a Winners Choice & Honorary Choice Winners. The Winners Choice, Kay, chosen by all of you, Won my "Ice Princess Pendant" & a blog feature. The Honorary Choice, Susan, chosen by using random.org, Won a $10 Gift Certificate to use in my supply shop & a blog feature as well. So here is to honoring my two winners & saying Thank You for participating & Congratulations!

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts you make?

I mostly make Stained Glass, Mosaics and Fused Glass kreationz for the Home and Garden. But I started beading/adding beads to my kreationz a couple of years ago. I live in Texas and we have a small ranch where we do Wildlife management, so most of my items are nature themed or for your yard/garden.

When & How did you start creating?

When my boys were little, my hubby would have to be gone a lot and I couldn’t sleep when he was gone, so I started trying out my hand at different hobbies. I’ve done sewing, painting (which I’m NOT good at), crocheting/knitting. I finally settled on glass. I’ve always loved stained glass and found an old window I wanted to take the glass out of and replace with stained glass, so had to take a class to learn how to do that and fell in love with glass.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Mainly from nature. I love to make things for my yard/garden. I make birdfeeders, stepping stones, candle holders, etc that I can put out in my yard and garden.

Is there a craft that you'd love to learn?

I tried lampwork/torch work, but fire and I don’t get along so well. LOL But I’d love to learn to weld so I could make metal sculptures/stands for some of my Glass Kreationz. Just not enough time in the day/year.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of etsy?

I love to do things with my family. My hubby and I love to travel. And I love gardening. Although with the heat (112 yesterday) and the drought here in Texas I’m not real successful with that this year.

What other hobbies/crafts do you enjoy?

Mainly just my glass and now getting further into beading. I’m participating in the Bead Soup Blog Party this year for beading.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?

Frums Glass Menagerie evolved from an etching I did using a unique shaped bottle to donate to my dog's rescue organization. I am self taught to cut, fuse, etch, and paint on glass, mostly jewelry sized items. Recently I started minature painting with watercolors and mixed media.

When & How did you start creating?

Since before I can remember. My parents encouraged me with craft kits and classes, even at an early age. I have photo of myself making clothes for the cats. Poor kitties.

Where do you find your inspiration?

My pets, animals, and nature.

Is there a craft that you'd love to learn?

Many. Freeform crochet, metalworking, enameling, and needlefelting

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of etsy?

I love to spend time with my husband and dogs. I enjoying gardening, reading, and cooking.

What other hobbies/crafts do you enjoy?

Sewing, silk painting, weaving

Welcome to my first blog Bead Challenge. All 10 Contestants were given 2 sets of Snake Jasper Gemstones. They needed to create a handmade piece of art using these two beads & any other materials they wanted. The possibilities were endless & they all did an incredibly great job coming up with a unique handmade piece. Lets meet all the contestants & the pieces they've created...shall we?

Liz - "Bohemian Charm" - The braceletrepresents a classy combination of earth & metal with it's colors and textures. Liz combined aqua snake Jasper Gemstones, two similar multi-color round beads, black beads, silver separators & a metallic loop chain link with matching clasp.
Kirsten - "Summer Breeze" - The bracelet reminds her of the light & breezy atmosphere at the beach. The colors are reminiscent of the ocean, and this bracelet is a reminder of that fun vacation when you're land-locked once more. The bracelet has been made using Mother of Pearl Round Flat discs & aqua Snake Jasper Gemstones.
Julie - "Wire Wrapped Jasper & Swarovski Element Earrings" - Along with the aqua skin Jasper gemstones, Julie also used 4mm & 6mm faceted round Swarovski Element beads in a dark green color. The beads are wire wrapped together by hand with gold colored jewelry wire.
Kay - "Waltz Across Texas" - The pendant was designed to look like a Bolo tie that a lot of cowboys in Texas wear. The fiber was put in to signify the boas/shawls some of the women wear when they go out dancing. The colors of the copper links and beads remind her of the colors of Texas. And since she live in Texas, what better name than Waltz Across Texas. All the links and clasp are handcrafted out of copper wire. There are 2 hammered brass discs to attach the fibers & a brass link on the “Bolo” pendant with the 2 Jasper beads.
Christie - "Fall Lonely Night" - This necklace represents those leaves who are among all those changed into beautiful reds, oranges, and yellows who feel so lonely on the crisp fall nights. The necklace was made with olive colored glass oval confetti beads that are accented with black, white and a touch of gold, metallic gold glass beads, black smoke large glass seed beads and some sort of polished natural stone beads.
Deborah - "Seaside" - This bracelet was made by using two aqua Snake Jasper Gemstones, a coffee coloured square glass bead as the focal point. The body of the bracelet is made up of size 12 gold glass seed beads, size 8 turquoise gold-lined glass beads and 4mm cream coloured quartz round beads with a gold toned toggle clasp set.
Shari - "Pink Elephant" - This keychain was made with 3 purple round glass beads, 2 aqua Snake Jasper Gemstones & a pink elephant charm.
Tammy - "Indian Summer" - The term Indian Summer is often used to describe the hottest time of the year, typically between July and August when temperatures are considerably above average and usually accompanied by dry hazy conditions. This beautiful 24" necklace is constructed of 3 - 20mm x 25mm White Magnesite, Flat Oval Focal Stones, 2 - 9mm x 12mm Flat Rectangle Aqua Skin Jasper Gemstones, 2 - 8mm Round and Swirl Amber Glass Beads, 12 - 8mm Green Moss Agate Rondelles, 14 - 5mm Tigers Eye Beads, Antique Silver Spacer Beads, Amber, Champagne & Brown Seed Beads Antique Silver Grape Leaf Toggle Clasp.
Susan - "Celtic Elegance" - These earrings have been made with Aqua Snake Jasper Gemstones, Freshwater Pearls, seed beads, antique findings & a charms.
Relynn - "River Nymph Cuff" - Hammered silver tone cuff bracelet encrusted with shells and river rocks collected from Colonial Beach, VA. Two aqua skin Jasper Gemstones have been added to incorporate the color of the Potomac River.

VOTING:

In order to caste your vote for your favorite contestant, you must include their name & the name of their creation. For example: My vote is for Solange - Ice Princess. Anonymous votes will be deleted! I will NOT tolerate any kind of rudeness towards anyone's creations or any type of cheating. This is supposed to be fun, so please be respectful. If I catch anyone cheating with votes, that person WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!!! You may ONLY VOTE ONCE & for ONE PERSON. On August 29th, two winners will be posted. I’m having a Bead Challenge - Yay!!! Interested??? Here’s a little bit on how this bead challenge will work.

RULES

A total of 16 people will be given 2 random Aqua Skin Jasper flat square gemstone beads from my BeadieandThings etsy shop.

You must use these 2 beads & any other materials of your choice to create a handmade piece of art. There are no restrictions on how to use these two beads other then it MUST be handmade & you must use these two beads in your creation…so the possibilities are endless. Please sign up by leaving a comment here no later than July 22. First 16 people to sign up, will be entered. Once chosen, you will see your name on my blog & you will have 24hrs to send me your mailing address to JewelrybySolange@aol.com so that I can mail you the two beads. Doxie Halloweenie Party

Today was the annual Halloweiner Party for the Dachshund Group. Suprisingly, there weren't as many doxies dressed up this year...Last year was a different story, but we still had loads of fun. It always gives us a giggle to see all the dachshunds dressed up & theyre all soooo cute! I made a Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake decorated like a pumpkin for all the humans to enjoy. Apparently, it was a big hit & everyone was asking me for the recipe. I also brought some doggie treats from Petables on etsy & those were a hit with the doxies too!Our cute little Daisy the Dachshund was a caterpillar who was transforming into a beautiful butterfly! There were many other Costumes. For starters, the Organizers of the group Kenny & Nick handmade Owens & Oscar's Costumes. They were the Milk & Cookies:Cool Right? The milk in the cup actually moved. Then there was Marli (Daisy's look-a-like) dressed up like a little sparkly devil & Joaquin was a little hotdog:

We all chatted & took pictures and towards the end, we all got in a circle and went around introducing ourselves and our dogs costumes. Then after that, we all had to vote for 1st, 2nd & 3rd best costumes. The Milk & Cookies won first place, Daisy the Caterpillar/Butterfly won 2nd place & Hershey Santa Clause won 3rd. Daisy was one happy doxie as she got a gold metal & a mummy loofa with squeaky to add to her collection.

I havent blogged in what feels like forever, but Im coming back with some yummy recipes :0) The first one is my famous Champion Chicken. As requested...here it is:

CHAMPION CHICKEN PARMESAN
SAUCE (My moms special Italian Recipe)
1. 1 Onion
2. 1 Red pepper
3. 3 Small pieces of garlic (cut very tiny) or a bit of garlic seasoning will do too
4. A little of parsley (cut very tiny)
5. 1 Can of diced tomatoes
6. 1 Cup of Hot water
7. Little salt & black pepper
8. 1 Big spoon of Balsamic pepper
9. Let cook for 15-20 minutes

CHICKEN
1. Place 2 Eggs in bowl & batter
2. Put 4 Pieces of chicken in egg bowl
3. Place chicken in bowl of flour with parmesan cheese
4. Place flat pan with vegetable oil on stove
5. Fry chicken until yellow
6. Place chicken in flat dish (oven use)
7. Put all tomato sauce on top of chicken
8. Top with mozzarella cheese
9. Leave in oven for 15 minutes

Last week was my boyfriends 30th birthday & he really wanted a cake from All American Cookie Company but somehow all the ones we had here disappeared, so I decided to look online for some recipes on how to make my own. I found one that was pretty simple & decided to try it. I then gave it to my boyfriend & told him that if he LOVED it, Id keep it for the future. Indeed it was a success :0) My only disappointment was the icing. I made a booboo. Used some black writing icing & realized I didnt have enough so I had to improvize with what I had & try to make the best of it. I bought icing but you can very well use your own homemade recipe. I do have to say one thing...ok so I thought this was going to be a small cake but it kept growing and growing and I had to transfer it to a bigger pan. Lets just say, I ended up using a 16inch pizza pan so thats about how big it got! My boyfriend still has some in the fridge :0) so its a nice cake to do for a lot of people.

But I was given a 2nd chance at playing with icing when I made another Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake for my boyfriends brother who just turned 33 on Friday. Have to say Im getting better at the icing thing lol I found this amazing recipe on a handmade gift website. Here it is for all of you to enjoy:

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE CAKE RECIPE:
• 1 cup butter, softened (not melted)
• 1 cup packed brown sugar
• 1 cup white sugar
• 2 eggs
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 2 teaspoons hot water
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
• 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to the batter along with the salt. Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts (optional). Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
3. Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are slightly browned. ( I had to bake mine for about 30minutes)

For the Frosting I used Blue Wilton Ready to Decorate Icing & Betty Crocker Decorating Cupcake Icing in Cloud White that I bought in walmart, but you can also find it in your supermarket. Whats cool about them is that they come with four types of decorating tips that you can use on the cakes and keep them for the future.

*The secret to making a good cookie cake is using parchment paper (in the same aisle as the cling wrap and aluminum foil). Parchment paper keeps the dough from spreading and doesn't allow the dough to stick to the pan. Cut the parchment paper to fit the cookie sheet or baking stone. After you've put the parchment paper on the stone or pan, use a spatula to evenly spread the cookie dough into whatever shape you desire (circle, heart, square, etc.).
*Place the cookie sheet or baking stone into the preheated oven, and follow the directions for cooking time. Cookie cakes can take a little longer to bake, so make sure to check the cookie frequently. Once the edges are slightly browned, remove the cookie from the oven. Slide the cookie and parchment paper from the cookie sheet, and let it cool completely before frosting it.

WeinerRoast 2010

So today was the annual weinerroast for our dachshund meetup and well, of course, we went. Before we headed out, we stopped at the Stop & Shop Supermarket & bought some yummy goodies to bring with us. It was Daisy's first trip to the supermarket. I put her in the cart, you know where you put kids and she was really good.

We didnt get stopped until we were ready to leave and were told we couldnt have dogs, when Ive seen SO MANY dogs there in the past. Then we headed out to the park. There werent as many people as last year, but we still had an AWESOME PAWsome time! When we got there, Daisy's look alike Marli was swimming out in the hudson after a geese & the owners boyfriend had to swim after her. It was pretty amazing, considering she swam pretty far. Had that been Daisy, she would be swimming the opposite direction to land lol...We ate a lot of yummy bbq and snacks and Daisy even got a snip (when I wasnt looking) of my cheese burger and later snacked on a watermelon.

Chad (my boyfriend) kept telling me to let her free to explore without her leash, because the majority of the other doxies were loose. However, I was a little hesitant because we never leave her without a leash unless the place where we are is gated. She tends to run after anything-squirrels, chipmunks & bunnies...you name it. But she was being so good and I told him that if he watched her, while I was chatting with some of the members, that I would allow it. As soon as I took the leash off, she was saying hi to people and doggies and walking around exploring with Chad. At one point she was even running (which made my heart stop a beat, I wont even lie lol) but she was extremely good and I was so proud of her.

She was even vocal...Shes normally really quiet and shy when we go to the meetups but she was even speaking and everyone was so surprised. There was only one incident that happened-Another doxie snapped at her and all I heard was her screaming really loud so I dropped what I was doing & ran to her. Poor thing was shaken up and her heart was beating so fast. The owner did apologize and after a few mins it took to calm her down, she was ok. My poor little Daisypoo. Even so, she had such a good time that when it was time to leave, she didnt want to go.

A Year Ago Today, I started a Scrumdiddlyumptious Threadkiller + Contest Forum on Etsy, in the attempt to get my shop "out there" and meet people along the way. What I thought, would just be a fun short thing on etsy, began a long line of friendships. I couldnt ask for better friends. Although, I have "YET " gotten the opportunity to meet these wonderful, talented ladies, I call my etsy family, in person, we have all been through the ups and downs of life...together! This past year, has been a rough one for me, only these girls would understand. I have shared my deepest darkest secrets with them and we have all become quite close. I always tell them that our etsy reunion will be on my wedding day (when the time comes) because I am going to have an "etsy table" dedicated just for all of them :0) I want to take this time to thank all of them for their friendship and unconditional love and for a friendship I hope to continue for many more years...I couldnt have gotten through my hard patches without all of you, so Thank You, from the bottom of my heart! How did you come up with the name of your shop?
Several years ago I sold sterling silver jewelry...I would hunt down quirky and elegant pieces. Often I was asked from people who knew I was in the jewelry biz: "what kind of jewelry do you sell" My response was always, without blinking... "cool." My business name at that time was actually cooljewelry. When I began making it myself, "that" name was taken here at Etsy, and so I had to add "design" at the end. (There are several variations of this name "out" there...but I am all lower case and run together.)
Tell us a little about your craft –What do you do/make?
I refer to my personal style as eclectic edgy “random chaos” and I craft OOAK (one of a kind) jewelry very similar to how I cook—the recipe is often tweaked to the point of no recipe being followed—therefore, a very intuitive process. I love to work with color and texture and enjoy pairing the most unusual suspects together, often in an asymmetrical style.
When and how did you start creating?
About 3 years ago I enthusiastically attended what I hoped would be a really great beginner class. It morphed into nothing but a coffee klatch and so I decided to teach myself.
Did someone teach you?
Just me
What is the most difficult part of your craft?
Applying the brakes when it comes to making final color choices. (you would have to live inside my head to understand perhaps)
Tell us about your workspace-Where do you create?
Finally about 3 months ago I had a sitting room converted into a studio—still unorganized. But I have a killer 1890’s Belgian chest where “most” of my stuff can reside.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I love to color and texture match on sunny days, allowing the natural light to guide me. The actual stones, beads, and findings inspire me—they even YELL sometimes…”hey, look at ME!”
Do you have a favorite item in your shop that you just can’t bear to part with?
I “did” have a favorite bracelet and so it’s among my “inactive” items…I may drag it back into the shop in the fall.
What has been your best marketing technique?
In person: do not try to over-sell; people really know what they want. Otherwise, I don’t have one particular marketing technique—I do the social networking and just hope I am not bugging the life out of people. Planning to offer a really “sweet” deal to past clients in the form of a “private” sale, not Etsy-wide.
What’s your supply addiction?
Hands down…lampwork and really cool clasps.
What other hobbies/crafts do you enjoy?
Traveling, cooking
Is there a craft that you'd love to learn?
I would sooo love to learn some aspects of metal smithing…was just thinking about that on the way to work. (Maybe in my next life)

It was a very HOT summery day here in NY. I tried taking Daisy outside so she could enjoy her birthday & play with her favorite ballies, but it was wayyyyyy to hot for her. Look at her long tongue sticking out & I didnt notice it until I watched the video that her saliva is literally flying all over the place LOL. Here she is relaxing or lack of, listening to the birdies in the yard-surprised she didnt charge & enjoying the air:

Happy 7th Birthday Daisy~We LoVe YoU~

Daisy loves this time of year, its almost like Christmas for her. She loves when we cheer her on to open her presents and she loves it when we all clap & yell "yaaaaay" when she finishes opening her gifts-it makes her tail way - shes just like a little kid, really. We taught her how to open her own presents at a young age and she's become really good at it...She's very talented-this little one! Here she is jumping all over the place to get into her bag of presents. You can call her Ms Floppy Ears - so excited she jumped up to kiss the camera & walked away with wrapper still on her gift LOL:

She went on to the 2nd gift and noticed there was still a bag behind me with more presents, so she didnt know which way to go....eventually she finished opening her 2nd present:

3rd present was one of Chads (my boyfriend) & that one she got into way tooooo quick. The 4th gift (the colorful bone) is from my parents:

The 5th one was from me...and she made sure to turn around and show the camera....the 6th one was from Chad-the baseball player-um she still has it in her mouth right now! She loves it and its all wet from squeaking away.

& the last one (well we saved one for later for her to open outside) is the "favorite" bally that needs to be replaced so my parents bought 2. But she goes insane with those, so we usually leave them outside.

Daisy loves getting on my lap while Im on the computer and playing with her toys. She likes when I hide them under the chair and play hide and seek with them. Yet for some reason, she goes nuts when I place the toy on my desk. I finally got a video of her. I guess she's afraid to step on the keyboard which is funny because when she was smaller, she used to get on the desk all the time and lick my monitor when I would move the mouse around. I so wish I had a video of that, but I dont & now our monitor is different. Hope you Enjoy! Here is Daisy trying to reach for her froggy.

The difficult but rewarding part is making the clients vision come to a reality. The only really difficult part in having my own business is all the paperwork that I have to keep track of.

I was able to try Bordeaux this past Saturday and its FABULOUS-Its a purpley color with a touch of shimmer. The best part of wearing my eyeshadow was that it lasted all day without having to reapply or touch up, which is something I really really love about this product. I will have to test it out the next time I go out to a sweaty club/bar, to see if it will last that long night of sweating...But, so far, I'm really impressed. I have read stories on her blog about people who used to use only MAC products and now have changed to Orglamix and well...now I know why. Daisy

We recently put Daisy on N'zymes which is a nutrient & vitamin for all types of pets and animals. My sister heard about this through a Dachshund breeder and interested to know more, she researched about it and asked questions. I was a little iffy to put Daisy on anything, so I recommended that we ask her Vet to see if this stuff is actually really safe for animals. Sure enough, our Vet told us that this would be really good to help Daisy build a better immune system. She's been having issues with allergies lately and has been loosing hair on her body, as well as has been licking her paws a lot and sometimes chewing, that it had us really worried. We hope that these vitamins will help her in the long run. Because of the new treatment, we had to change her food, diet, even her shampoo. But the good thing is that you can order everything in the website and we found a Pet store near us that sells the food. Daisy has no problem eating anything...especially when Chicken is the main ingredient :0) She looooooooooooves Chicken! She loves the new food so much we literally have to tell her to slow down. I finally caught her the other day with my camera LOL...she sucks it up like a vacuum cleaner...LITERALLY! She barks at us to put more, but now every serving has to be measured and we can only give her a certain amount daily.

I think the only thing Daisy hates about this treatment is that she has to be washed every 2 days with the shampoo. Otherwise, shes been really playful. We havent had to worry about putting a shirt on her while she's in the backyard playing which is nice for her, because she likes to run nekked most of the time.

Sorry for the shaking camera...Its hard to keep it steady with a doxie & ballies around. Especially these ballies, she absolutely goes bonkers for...She will even cry sometimes just to get to her ballies.

It wasnt as crazy as last year from what I heard. I guess its because last year they were at Pet Friends where there is actual floor and they spread the eggs around the room. Seeing doggies follow the eggs and open them with their paws and mouths was so funny though.

Here is Daisy hoping around like a bunny rabbit. She does this sometimes when doggies get near her & then sometimes she does this boxing move. Its so funny! Here is the new and active doxie named weenie. Shes about 9mths and sooooo playful:

Towards the end, a girl & her bf came with a teenie teenie yorkie. The doxies were curious because the doggie was so small, they thought it was a toy. Heres weenie trying to say hello...

Yummy Birthday Cakey's :0)

My birthday just passed on Thurs, where I turned 29! I cant believe one more year and I'm the big 3-0 uh oh! Anyway, I was so happy to be able to get electricity back on Wednesday night after not having it for dayyyyyyys from the windy storm we had here last weekend. The plans were that I was supposed to go to my boyfriends on Thurs for dinner and then Fri I would have dinner with my family. Well, he ended up bringing the meal to us & made me a yummy half plain (my dad is not a huge fan of icing), half icing (I am) cakey. He tried so hard as he hates putting the icing on a cake (thats usually my part). But I loved it anyway because duh-he made it for me & he tried & I love him because of it :0) So creative!!! On Fri, my sister came down and we went to our favorite Italian restaurant Spiga. Yummm....I had to watch with my food restrictions so I had some plain grilled chicken with rosemary potatoes and then just ended up stealing a bit of Chad's penne a la vodka mmmm....We know the manager there so usually when we go, we get the VIP status lol...or thats what he likes to call it. To my surprise, my sister had a cake made especially for me and brought it to the restaurant so that we could do dessert and sing Happy Birthday to me with something extra yummy & extra special of course. Daisy Cracks me Up

Daisy Loves playing tug a war with her long snakey toys...Yes that is a real baby toy! She loves those...You know the ones that squeak, rattle and have that paper like sound in the inside??? So usually when we go buy Daisy toys, sure we look in the doggy section but we also check in the baby section too. Ive bought her some cool long snakes that have about 3 or 4 squeakers and a rattle in the end. One Rattle Snake even did the ssssss sound but she killed it! I know shes little, but for some reason she really loves her "snakey" toys..the ones that are so much longer than her body. This particular one I have to say is prob one of her fav's. I guess its because it has squeakies, rattle sound and some other stuff that keeps her curious. The one that you see in the picture, I bought it brand new at a garage sale. The owner said its supposed to be for a babies carrier so they can play with them...well she's our baby...I guess that means she could play with it too...right? LOL!

Holy Cannoli...thats what I have to say about this snow.

Not sure how bad it was in other areas, but today when I was awake at 5am and looked out the window, I knew there was no way anyone in my house was going to work. We live on an AVE and it was completely covered with snow-you couldnt even see the street & it was still snowing. Now I didnt get to capture pictures before my parents cleaned the driveaway, but I just went outside right now and took some pictures of Winter Wonderland Part II. The snow is almost up to our windows, its crrrrrrrrrrrazy! The fence is almost covered as well-I cant believe it. Even though the sun is coming out right now, its still snowing & supposibly its supposed to keep going until Saturday afternoon. Wondering how bad it will be tomorrow??

I had to share....So this year for Valentine's Day, I wanted something extra special, something that I could wear everyday and something I could design with the help, suggestions & input of my wonderful boyfriend. I've been wanting to get a heart and key necklace for some time now, but all of the ones Ive seen have been too small, or way too big for my taste or just too blingy and not just right. So I decided, duh, why not create my own. I searched for keys on etsy and then when I couldnt find something that stole my heart and said "yes, thats the piece"...I decided to post in the etsy forums and got some great suggestions-EBAY-now, why didnt I think of that? I found some nice Sterling Silver Keys from a few people and just decided to go with 4 different ones/sizes to see which one (s) I liked best. Luckly they arrived a lot quicker then I imagined they would and I have to say that Im very happy with my choice of two different keys I decided to keep. Then for the heart....I wanted something handmade, different-something you wouldnt see at a store. So my bf and I came up with the cheesy but cute "tree carving" idea. I was able (after loads of searching, loads of requests and loads of questions) to find a very nice etsy seller: Baydesign (http://www.Baydesign.etsy.com/) who was able to create this special piece for us. Not only did she give the heart a special scratching effect that reminds me of the carvings you would find on a tree, she was also able to put what Chad & I had decided and incorporated one of my favorite stones : Labradorite. She was def the best person that I could have picked to make this piece for us. Not only was she patient and very friendly, but oooo did she answer alllllllll, I mean alllllll of my questions. & I think I asked a lot, but I feel that as a customer, I want to know what product Im getting, rather then getting something & being totally surprised and saying to myself "OMG wtf did I buy?"...you know? I mean really, who wants that feeling. So if youre looking to design a beautiful piece of jewelry or looking for some pretty items...take a look at her shop. Dachshund Valentine's Day Partay

Today, after 4 months of not being able to make it to the Dachshund party because of health reasons, we finally took Daisy to another meetup-The Valentine's Day Party. I brought a platter full of yummy doggy treats and they were a big hit! What doxie, does not like anything that spells out "food"? haha...they were gone in a matter of minutes, literally. Today they had the party in the indoor place here called Best Friends. We've never been there before so Daisy was a little shakey going in, but when she realized there was flooring there instead of gravel, she loved it and ran around. At one point, she wouldnt stop following me so my bf took a video of it...everyone was "awwwing" and laughing-saying how cute she was. There was a new little doxie there-3 months old named Hershey...she was the "new" little baby there, so everyone kept surrounding her and all the doxies were getting jealous. Daisy def shared lots of kissies today and now her and my bf are knocked out on the bed lol...Here are some photos & pics. Enjoy & hope you all have a HAPPY LOVIES DAY!!!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY Baking!

Want to give your loved one something special for Valentine's Day...but you just dont have the cash right now??? Why not, make some yummy Valentine's Treats? I for one, cannot eat chocolate because I'm highly allergic, but I def enjoyed it at some point. On the other hand, my boyfriend and dad just lovvvvvvvvvvvvve Chocolate, so I thought I should make them some yummy treats. Enjoy!

Chocolate Ganache Cake with Toffee and Valentine's M&M's for my mom & dad:

Recipe for Chocolate Ganache Cake from the Betty Crocker Magazine I have:

Prep Time: 25minutes Start to Finish: 3 hours 15 minutes

Serving: 16

1 package Betty Crocker SuperMoist Chocolate Fuge Cake Mix ( I used triple Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix)

1 1/3 cups of water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

3 eggs

1 tub (1lb) Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy Chocolate ready to spread frosting

1/2 cup whipping (heavy) cream

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

2 bars chocolate covered english toffee candy, very coarsely chopped (I was able to find a small bag of toffee in Walmart already chopped, so I go those to same me the trouble)

1. Heat oven to 350 F. Generously grease bottoms only of two 8 or 9 inch round pans with shortening. Make cake mix as directed on package, using water, oil and eggs. Pour into pans.

2. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes. Run knife around side of pans to loosen cakes, remove from pans to wire rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour

3. Fill layers and frost side and top of cake with frosting. Heat wwhipping cream in 1-quart saucepan over medium heat until hot (do not boil), remove from heat. Stir in chocolate chips until melted and smooth. Let stand 5 minutes. Carefully pour chocolate mixture onto top center of cake, spread to edge, allowing some to drizzle down side. Garnish top of cake with toffee candy. Refrigerate about 1 hour or until chocolate is set. Store covered in Refrigerator.

The second batch, for some reason didnt come out as moist as the first ones so I couldnt top them with M&M's but the shapes still came out good.

Hey everyone! Just came in from being outside taking some pics of the snow on trees that I love but omg its still snowing! Everything seems to be closed here. I'm so glad I went and did my errands yesterday, but can I say...Walmart was crazzzzy! People were filling up about 2 carts full of stuff. I figured these people are either having a party are being really paranoid. I mean...I couldnt find anything I needed. Not to mention people were craaaaaaanky and mean to add to all that. Anyway, I hope that all of you who are snowed in, are enjoying the relaxation of being off from work and staying safe & warm. All you need is a great color printer, Microsoft Publisher & some Laser Labels (mine are by Avery)-can be found in Walmart or any office supply place like staples, office depot, etc-It has about 3000 label sheets. The design I used on these labels matches my banner on my etsy page and my business cards. You can make the design you wish to, but if you have an etsy or online shop, its a good idea to keep everything consistent with your banner and business cards, as I have done. If you are not a seller but would like to make some cute stickers, you can put "Happy Valentine's Day" or use your own phrase and decorate it with images from clipart and the internet, as I have done. You can make it whatever style and color as you want. And VIOLA…there you have some great stickers for you packaging with your shop name and etsy link & or personal stickers made by you!

You can find cheap ribbon anywhere. Walmart has great prices on either solid ribbon or printed ribbon. Target always has ribbon in their $1 section and dollar stores-forget it they have unlimited amounts of ribbon. There is no need to spend all your life savings on ribbon. This particular ribbon I'm using, is the ones that you would use to tie on balloons. I got it in the dollar store years ago…I mean YEARRRRRRRRRRS ago. Works great on these kinds of projects.

Tissue Paper….ever heard of recycle??? LoL. Well here you have it…Victoria’s Secret paper is pink and perfect for Valentine’s Day. If not, you can always try the Christmas Tree store, that is, if you have one around you. They have the best prices in tissue paper. A whole large shebang for a whopping $1 bill!

Baggies…o how I love thee. They’re sort of like wrapping presents, just so much easier and so much cheaper. It’s decorative, inexpensive and adds that extra something to your packages. I use these when there’s a bulk order. I have one in every season…hearts, snowman, stars, snowflakes, butterflies & flowers. I find them in Target. Did, I tell you how much I love target?? :0) The Dollar Tree has them as well. CVS have ones that you can use for bottles…ummm yeah you can totally use those for other items as well. You can also buy plain Jane pink or Red baggies as I have done and add some cutesy stickers to it and there you have some creative wrapping!

Once you’re done…..You have a bunch of different ways to package your Valentine's Day GOODIES at a low price :0)

Christmas Festivities...

Our Christmas was wonderful this year! My mom cooked a whole feast just for the 4 of us and my boyfriend came over to enjoy the festivities of Santa Clause once again. He celebrates Hanukkah, so I usually go to his parents house for Hanukkah and he usually comes to mine for Christmas. It works out that way. In Argentina, we usually celebrate on Christmas Eve and we used to open our presents at 12, until my sister decided to change the tradition and have us open our presents on the 25th like you do here in the US. Im not to fund of that tradition, as I always have to open at least 1 present at 12 haha. But I have to say, I was good this year and didnt. However Miss Daisy the Dachshund couldnt wait. She wagged her tail in front of her stocking until she got my dad to give her a present. ((Im having problems loading the videos so Ill have to try again)) Here she is being a like sneaky sneaky....

She knew that bag was full of her gifts...so when she "thought" no one was looking, she snatched one away...sure enough though, my bf was holding the camera

Im sorry I havent been writing lately. I havent been feeling too well. I was in the hospital for a week, off from work for 3 weeks that they terminated me with no warning at all just a letter in the mail. At this point, my infection isnt going away and I may be spending xmas at the hospital if the doc cant find a treatment for me. I have a lot of medicine allergies and everything they would give you for a UTI I'm allergic to. After having one for 2 weeks I was hospitalized and put on 3 different antibiotics through IV. After a week in the hospital the infectious specialist bent over backwards to get me out with the exception I continue treatment at home. After being stabbed with about 20 needles, I had to get a midline catheter inserted in my arm. Was not a pleasant experience at all and I cried and squeezed the bajesus out of my boyfriends hand, the whole time. I had that on for a week, giving myself daily injections with antibiotics. Now after getting it removed on Monday, Ive realized that Im not feeling better at all. I had to go for a urine/stool test on Wednesday and have gotten another form of antibiotic-a nasty powder I had to mix with water and drink. Yum! If this doesnt work, doc says I may have to be put on IV's again. Im really scared. At this point I dont know if its something more serious as when I was in the hospital, they did tests and found out that the infection went to my kidneys. I swear, Im having the worst luck ever and now Im stuck looking for a new job. I hate that this job literally assured me the whole week I was in the hospital that I still had a job and nothing to worry about. When I finally got out of the hospital, I got a termination letter and then found out they hired someone else...lovely isnt it? I do have a few connections at some great jobs so Im crossing my fingers I get something soon. With the holidays around the corner, Ill need something fast. So say a little prayer for me, if you can. I can really use one :0)

I'd like to introduce all of you to Elizabeth Holmes-deForest also known as Mama and Ribasus (often, it is “Auntie Ribasus”) of For et, ForetTwo, and DivineDesignbyForet. “Who is Ribasus?...you ask? Well visit her blog at http://ribasusworld.blogspot.com/ to find out where the name comes from.

How did you come up with the name of your shop?

Foret is actually Forêt (the circumflex accent means there used to be ‘s’ there too, as in ‘forest.’) It began as a signature line of apparel I was designing and manufacturing starting in 1993. I came up with the name as an alternative to my business name which I have had since 1984 and which is still alive: Santa Fe Jewelry and Design.

Tell us a little about your craft –What do you do/make? I have parallel careers in art and healing, and I have been self-employed all my life. So, what you see in my Etsy shops is just a small portion of what I do. On Etsy, I have some of my jewelry and my healing pendants which I call ELEMENTALZ

(actually, they are my most favorite things to work on! ForetTwo is full of the best I can find in that realm of vintage and supplies. Divine Design has more things like astrology listings, mineral specimens, ELEMENTALZ, and pendulums. I am also a photographer and digital artist, and when I can I do some magazine work. I have been wanting to find time and the appropriate images to include in one or two of my Etsy shops. Many of my images are a way to commune with Spirit, so sharing that is one of my goals. Some of my images are just straight photography with my two themes: optical illusion and sight gags (from the sublime to the ridiculous, as always.) I also have a fairly active counseling schedule where I offer readings using the various symbolic systems which have been useful over the years. Having been a professional counseling astrologer for over 30 years, I felt it was something I could offer on Etsy as an introduction to more in depth consultations. Living where I do, one must wear many hats to stay in the flow with both consciousness and survival! My goal is to get all of the various things I do offered up in some way through my shops and my websites (I am currently working on two of them.)

When and how did you start creating? I have been making art since I can remember. And, I learned the womanly arts of sewing and other needlework at the feet of my Victorian grandmother. When I was a little girl, I designed and made all of my doll’s clothing and created environments for them to live in complete with artwork for the walls etc. By the time I was 12, I was making all of my own clothing for fun. I took art classes from when I was very young and was selling my work at age 14, and was in juried shows aside from school as a teenager, winning prizes for my work. Multiples processes and photography grabbed me when I was about 15 when I watched a friend developing pictures in a darkroom. On the strength of that, I went out and got all the equipment and began my journey with cameras, film, and works on paper. I have gone digital, but recently shot a bunch of rolls on my fleet of ancient cameras on expired film! I have even been working with creating images with my very old scanner: scanner art. Very interesting results! I do some ‘art for art’s sake’ activity every single day. It keeps me sane and honest while I work on more commercial things to make my living.

Where do you find your inspiration? Everywhere I turn my eye, both within and without, is rich with inspiration. Anything can trigger me because my inner life is as colorful (sometimes even more so) than my outer life.

Do you have a favorite item in your shop that you just can’t bear to part with? Nope! But I do have a piece which I have not listed which I look at all the time called “Clan of the Cave Bear Squashed Blossom Necklace.” Squashed is the correct term. Hahaha. It was made for a competition I was in here in NM back in 2002. I sold everything else around it, but I cannot bear (no pun) to let it go! It is turquoise, fossilized walrus ivory including teeth (!) , black jade and aventurine.

What has been your best marketing technique? Getting out in public and talking to people: guerilla marketing. Problem is, I have become very reclusive, so this is more of a challenge now. One thing which I have developed as a marketing habit is collecting the names and numbers of people who ask me about what I am doing (both as an artist and a counselor.) I have business cards, like anyone else (and we have all passed out at least one million of them only to be used as shims under table legs!), but what really works is follow through with the interested parties. I always ask if it is ok with them if I contact them. This is how you really get business as well as making other kinds of contacts!

What’s your supply addiction? That would be a toss up between textiles and stones. I love exotic textiles, and I have to be very very careful about my collecting! I think I got into selling supplies because it gives me an excuse to shop for stones, which is one of my greatest pleasures.

Is there a craft that you'd love to learn? I have been putting off learning silver and gold smithing as well as casting. Once I really can’t take it anymore, and I have the space and money to tool up, I am going for it. It is the same with building furniture. I really want to do that and, again, it is a matter of space and funding.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of etsy? Thank Goodness I have a life outside of Etsy! One of my favorite things is going to see films with my friend John and doing post mortems on them afterwards…as well as our long discussions on history, philosophy, and moving out of the country (we are aimed at Siracusa right now, but that could change tomorrow.) We plot and scheme constantly, and as we are both intense film and art bullies we just have a ball. I am also an intrepid and experimental cook, especially since I was diagnosed with diabetes, so making good tasting and interesting meals which won’t kill me is a new challenge. I have a lot of friends who have a strong spiritual and philosophical leaning, so going to and engineering gatherings around our interests (from chanting to shamanic work to prayer to discussion) is another great fun thing. And most of all, I love to keep track of and spend what time I can with my wonderful son, Ariel, a professional comic and aspiring actor who still manages to make his mother’s hair stand on end!

Tell everyone a random fact about you: In October of 1991, I told everyone I knew I was going to be meeting Robert Plant the next day (saw it in a vision the week before, got the day and time right down to the minute)… and I did! The Tall Cool One and I had a great visit, and as with so many people I meet, he told me everything on his mind and talked about his mother. Go figure!

Praying-Mantis in NY???

So the other day when I got home from the gym, my mom and I found a big surprise on her bedroom window, the next day we found two, one in the bay window and one on the wall near our back door and well today, I found one on our side window. I ran to get my camera to see if I can get a good shot of it from inside the house, theres no way Im getting close to it. And when I clicked a few times, it must've known I was there because it turned around and looked at me. Pretty spooky, but I did happen to get a great shot:

I have no idea where they're coming from. Theyre cool to look at, but I hope to God one doesnt fall on my head when I open the door. My mom laughs because Im constantly looking up. Today I was able to get a video from inside the house of the Praying-mantis on the move. Ive got say, I always thought they were faster, but this one was def moving really slow.

Dachshund Halloweenie Party

We just came back from the Dachshund Halloweenie party and all I have to say is awwww. Those little doxies were so cute. There was minnie mouse,cowgirl and cowboy, batman and robin, bat-dog, an angel, ladybug, couch potatoe, punk dog, Beeschicken or hen, little monsters, and so many others. I wanted to put Daisy in the lobster costume because no one really saw her in it other then in pictures, but my dad insisted we get her a new costume. I ended up finding a cute busy bee costume and when we got to the park, there were 3 other busy bee's. The whole time there, the whole time back and just a few mins ago my dad kept saying we shouldve put her in the lobster costume. Theres always next year~lol. Even if she wasnt a prize winner, she was a winner in our book. Here is our little busy bee Daisy:

Argentinian Dish-Tortilla de papa Yummmy in my tummmy!

Here is my favorite Argentinian dish...Tortilla de papa...For all the veggies out there this is made using potatoes, eggs and parmesan cheese. So easy to cook and doesnt take too long to make either.

TORTILLA DE PAPA

1. 4 or 5 Eggs (the amount of eggs really depends on how many potatoes you are using)

2. 5 or 6 Potatoes (all depends on the size of potatoe you are using. Youll want to use more if theyre small ones)

3. Mix eggs with little dash of salt & parmesan cheese (about 2 spoons or more)

4. Peel Potatoes & cut into small squares

5. Fry Potatoes in flat pan with vegetable oil

6. Take ALL oil out of pan

7. In a Bowl mix potatoes & eggs

8. Place in flat pan & cook at medium

9. Toss over tortilla, until both sides cooked

10. Ready to serve
& the finish tortilla de papa will look something like this:

& this is the Tortilla de papa and Chicken also from Argentina (like crusted chicken cutlets)

Weiner Roast & Daisy's first swim!

Today was the annual Dachshund Weiner Roast at Croton Park. This was our first time there and oh boy was it a HOTSY day to be outdoors. Just the walk there, we managed to get lost and walk all over the park just in time for me to step on dog poo and get it all over my flip flops and left leg, yeah...EwWwWwWw.....Can I say too that I had no napkins or tissue. Then after much walking around and much sweating, we finally found the tables and all the doxies :0) Unfortunately because the park is not gated Daisy had to be on a leash & she like some of the other doggies, was not happy. There were a few loose doggies, but we were too afraid to let her loose because the minute Daisy sees a squirrel, chipmunk or rabbit, she jets and doesnt listen to anything or anyone talking to her. So, to play it safe, we leashed her. So let me say that all great doxies think alike. We were laughing because when my sister or boyfriend or me or anyone for that matter would have some kind of food in our hands...you'd have like 10 eyes looking at you. At one point, I looked down and there was a doxie in between my legs lol...so funny! But Daisy got territorial, as like some other doxies and started barking when another doxie would try to get around me when I had food. We told her to be nice & Daisy looked at us like "what did I do?"

We had such a great time, regardless of the fact that we were all hot and sweaty and def, doxies included would need a bath when we arrived home. We were so happy to get a footage of Daisy swimming in the water. We were so excited we couldnt wait to get home and watch it with my parents who didnt go with us. We stayed there about 3 hours or so and then we had to go home because Daisy's paws were red and irritated from the sun and hot floor walking towards the site. There was sooooooooooooo much food and great to see some new faces. Starting next month will prob be tough for me as Im starting school on the 31st

Canada Trip!

Back from Canada. So technically we didnt get to explore too much but got a free day on Friday and spent some time walking around Toronto with my boyfriends cousin & wife.

This is a picture of the Soccer Stadium in Canada. The line in the parking lot was ridiculous as Canada was playing with Real Madrid. My dad wouldve loved to be there, so I took a picture for him:

This is where we had to go passed in order to get inside the stadium...I just thought it was really pretty: Beautiful flower garden we happend to pass on our walk around the city:

Loved the buses....

CN Tower is Toronto's and Canada's most recognizable and celebrated icon in the centre of tourism in Toronto. It is known to be the tallest building in the world. You can actually take a trip inside the CN Tower through eeeeek.... glass see through floor, if youre brave enough to do that. They also have a restaurant at the top of the tower, where the floor rotatoes giving everyone the opportunity to see the view of the city below. We were going to take the trip inside, but Im highly afraid of heights and afraid I wasnt going to make it. Plus there is a fee and to be able to go to the very top can get pricey...or so they told us.

This picture I actually took inside the car while it was moving on the highway. I gotta say, I did a pretty swell job :0)

This was taken right in front of the tower. It was a cloudy day but I really like how the picture came out. I hope you enjoyed looking a little bit at Toronto....I hope our next trip will be a bit longer and not for a family event so that we can really explore the city. It reminded us of a smaller version of NYC :0)

In honor of reopening my jewelry shop under my new shop name JewelryBySolange...I've decided to have a giveaway. Jewelry By Solange was originally named Custom Jewelry By Solange. I have been thinking about cutting my name down for a while now and finally decided to take the plunge when my boyfriend told me my name was too long.
